The Family Food Basket Ministry

An open door, a helping hand, and a compassionate heart

Our Mission

The Family Food Basket has served families since 1989, supporting Wilson, Franklin, Nash, and Johnston counties through food assistance, utility help, medication support, and encouragement for neighbors in need.

The ministry works with a faithful community of volunteers, churches, donors, and local partners to help reduce hunger and connect families with practical support. Assistance may include non-perishable food, dry goods, frozen meats, canned goods, bread, potatoes, sweet potatoes, help with Duke Energy utility bills, and limited prescription medicine support.

The Family Food Basket is more than a nonprofit pantry. It is a ministry focused on sharing God’s love and helping families receive care with dignity.

A generous person will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor. Proverbs 22:9

How We Help

Feed the flock of God which is among you. 1 Peter 5:2

Food Assistance

The pantry provides donated foods such as canned goods, dry goods, meats, bread, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and other available items for area families.

Utility Assistance

Public archived information says the ministry has worked with Duke Energy to help families with the final portion of qualifying electricity bills when resources are available.

Medication Help

The ministry has also offered limited financial help for needed prescription medication for those who cannot afford it.

How assistance works

Family Food Basket works with local churches, Duke Energy, and social service programs so families can receive support without exhausting one single community resource. Applicants may be screened for need, and assistance depends on assessment, funding, and availability.

Who has been helped?

Archived ministry information says the organization served food to 3,124 families from January through September 2020 and provided utility or medication assistance totaling $820.00 during that period.
